The Rise and Fall of the Church in Constantinople
Church services were a daily event, with many of the capital's churches holding at least four a day. The bones and other objects of saints or even biblical figures were found and placed in churches for the faithful to worship. Worship of the Virgin Mary had become a feature of city life, with former Empress Elia Pulcheria setting up an important shrine to her at Blacarnay.
