How to Maintain Lean Body Mass and Gain Muscle Mass

There's no fundamental difference between what maintaining lean body masses and gaining lean body masses from a muscle protein balance perspective. So if we are seeing pretty consistent data that really low carb diets aren't ideal for putting on muscle, especially if we're talking about bodybuilders,. I want to get that last 10%. Then I think it probably does make sense to try to preserve carbohydrate, if you can. The closest thing we have is observational data showing that typically higher placing bodybuilders eat more carbohydrates and reduce their carbohydrates less.
