The Valyrian Freehold in the Age of the Doom

House Valyrian were traders on Dragonstone for a century or two before even the House Targaryen got there. It's hard to say what internal politics were for the Valyrian freehold in the centuries preceding the doom. Maybe they came out on the wrong side of some internal political stripes and sort of upheaval that made them look elsewhere for their fortunes. They could have been like, Hey, you guys are really good at this. Go explore Westeros. We can set up trading networks here thinking back on it.
