The History of White Wedding Dresses
The earliest recorded instance of a white wedding dress in Western culture is that of English Princess Philippa at her wedding to the Scandinavian King Eric in 1406. White dresses didn't symbolize virginity and purity until the Victorian era. In China, where traditionally brides wear a red wedding dress because red symbolizes luck and prosperity, some brides change into white dresses for official photographs.
