The Importance of Astrology in Biblical Commentaries

Ibn Ezra lamented the decline of expertise in Hebrew language among his readers. To remedy this, he offered detailed analysis of difficult grammatical points and vocabulary. Ibn Ezra used his astronomical knowledge to refute Karai claims about the Jewish calendar. He also saw astrology as central for understanding the plight of the Jewish people.
