Sinclair Lewis and Irving Babbitt
irving babbit was a professor of french and comparative literature at harvard. He was the founder of an informal school of thought, a kind of literary and social criticism called the new humanism. I think he people think of a sinclair lewis book, a babbit, which is supposed to be a knock against bi remember you telling me that? Yes, sin Clair lewis was not a fan of the new humanist and not a fanof irving babbitt. And he seems to have written that book with that name in order to take a shot at irving.
