How Did You Discover the Art of Painting?
I grew up in south central los angeles, which is notoriously known for gang violence. My mam sent me to art school when i was a kid, at the age of about 11. And what i discovered then was a sense of the world being much bigger than the small under serf community that i grew up in. It opened my eyes to the possibility of making paintings that reference to different political, social points of view. I feel as though this legacy of painting is something that we all belong to. It's something that i am heir to, and that i inherit and feel a kind of responsibility to.
