Darrow's Speech to the Nation

Darrow knew he had two audiences, the whole country and that jury of 12 men. He walked a tight rope mostly though he appealed to the nation. Tennessee's constitution specifically protected religious freedom in language that borrowed very heavily from virginia's statute for religious freedom,. which had been written by thomas jefferson. Whereas almighty god hath ated the mind free, no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship place or ministry whatsoever. Darrow was making a point about the place of science in the american mind.
