In modern economics a lot of the debate turned out to be was it where people moved or was there just something magic about the land. And when you run careful tests it starts looking like it's people. A lazy person might just say well, it's just that the Europeans went to the good places those those places would have been great no matter what in terms of who was there. But you know, one of the things that brutal conquerors do is they make sure they get the best real estate.
