The Distasteful Story of Esther
There's smoking gun stuff in Deuteronomy chapter seven that says, don't marry somebody who's not Jewish at this point in the history of the redemptive plan. So assuming she had no choice, I guess the original audience would have just had to have viewed this as being distasteful. Some ancient theologians do blame her and they were like, you should have chosen death before you would defile yourself in front of everybody by marrying this Gentile.
