The Legacy of Hatoiyama Ichiro
In 1972, Hatoiyama Ichiro ran for the House of Counselors in Japan's Diet. His younger son Kuneo was already deeply enmeshed in the same liberal democratic party his own grandfather had helped found. The Socialist Party picked up 28 seats in the most recent general election in 1972. It is also worth noting that Kent Calder, in his study of the Japanese bureaucracy, uncovered a few things about the HatoiyAMA-Tanaka relationship.
