The Super Ego in Psychology
Freud called these rules the super ego in psychology today, they're known as schemas and attachment theory. They're largely emotional, strong debilitating emotions such as shame and guilt that activate when we've engaged in some kind of behavior that leads to neglect or anger. And these rules that form become the foundations of our conscience. Or they have no universal truth to them, they're arbitrary to each family system.
