Magna Carta was signed by a group of barons in 12th century England. They were unhappy that the kings had too much power and they wanted to change it. Simon de Montford reckoned he had a legitimate claim to the throne because his mother had been married to many, I think. He deposed Henry III and put his son Prince Edward on the throne instead.
