Scarlet Fever
Strep throat, scarlet fever and the current wave of strepe cases have in common. They are all caused by a bacterium called streptococcus pyogenes. On very, very rare occasions, these throat infections can become severe. There's been a suggestion that the current wave might be linked to lockdowns during the pandemic. The idea is that children weren't picking up germs and developing resistance to them.
