Phthalate syndrome is very rare for a condition to be observable in a newborn. One of the major purposes of phthalates is to make plastic soft. So anything with tubing that's soft is going to have phthalates in it. They are not bound to the plastic matrix, they can leave that easily. And one of the things that makes them leave it is heat.
