The History of African American Sexual Abductions
Carol Sphinx, Darleneia Johnson and Angela Barnes were all found dead on the side of a highway in 1971. All three girls had been abducted while walking through their Congress Heights neighborhood near Washington DC. The cases received very little media coverage because many believed it was due to the color of the victim's skin. Three years earlier, Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.'s death sparked four days of violent protests, fires and looting throughout D.C., where 70% of population was African American.
