A photo volteic cell was developed much earlier than i would have thought. In the 18 thirties or thereabouts, imean, there's quite a bit of interest in ther's quite a lot of interest in voltaic effects. You basically achieve different work functions by doping m front and back of a semi conductor wafer. And then there's a driving force for charges to flow from one way to the other. So who knows who was making solar cells in there s back yosye, exactly all through the nineteenth century?
