Hundreds of Australian Aboriginal languages have been lost over the last two centuries. Many more are currently endangered, but they've been a huge influence on the development of Aussie English. And about a third of all place names in Australia are Aboriginal names. Some Aboriginal communities today also speak Creoles - hybrid languages where English and local language have kind of mixed together.
