Aristotle was concerned with arguments which we call syllogisms. A categorical proposition is one that concerns a subject and a predicate. There are four different types of categorical propositions. And what Aristotle did essentially was look through all the different kinds of arguments that you could have of this type and categorize them to tell us which are good and which aren't.
