The Secret History of Empediclies

Aristotle is the first to posit what we now think of as the four traditional elements of earth, air, fire, and water. He puts empediclies alongside other thinkers in a kind of debate about what the matter of the universe is. Later traditions will find this division of reality into four principles very compelling.
