The Importance of Sacred Values in Conflict

Is it sacred values alone that makes ISIS the powerful, threatening force that they are? Well, that's an interesting question. What we find is that unconditional cooperation and intractable conflict are much better understood within a devoted actor rather than rational actor framework. And when that group itself is defined in terms of its values, then you have the most effective fighting force possible.
