The Concept of Sentience

When I say sentience, I mean roughly having the capacity to feel conscious, pleasure, and pain. And valence states that is states that feel good or bad. So this gets at things like the various pleasures you can experience and then the various pains and bad things you can experience. As a side note, I suspect that all animals that are phenomenally conscious are also sentiences because pain and pleasure are so basic biologically. But yeah, that's what I mean by sentiency.
