Marxism and the Modern World
When it appeared in the mid-19th century, Marxism was the fruit of a movement of thought only a hundred years old. The modern world outlook saw nature as governed by impersonal laws and open to man's control. It taught that man's survival, well-being and happiness were achievable on this earth; moral worth belongs to those who achieve it.
