The Rise and Fall of the Moral Majority
The Save Our Children campaign success was noted. Less than two years after the defeat of the Briggs Initiative in California, the firebrand televangelist Jerry Falwell had established the so-called moral majority. The Seattle effort to repeal protections for gay people was beaten back by a popular vote of 63% to 37%. Anita Bryant faced consequences for her actions. Boycotts, cancel TV shows and she was dropped by the Florida Citrus Commission.
