Are We Doomed if the Earth Turns Into a Black Hole?

If the earth suddenly became a black hole, do we have a chance of getting away? The question is, how far away would you have to be to not get sucked in. If you want to avoid falling into the black hole, i prefer the phrase falling in rather than getting sucked in because it tells us about the gravity that's happening there. You'd need to go into orbit around the black hole. Basically, you need be moving fast enough that you keep missing the earth as you fall. That's what an orbit is, i see.
