The Politics of Time Standardization in Britain
Since time immemorial, every place had had its local time. Bristol is nine minutes behind London in terms of sunrise. By the 1850s, pretty much every part of the British Rail network had standardized its time to Greenwich Meantime. But it was decades later that Britain civilized standardized to Greenwich Time.
