I used to be a consultant for an intercultural consulting company. And part of my job was to train executives and marketing people who were maybe from Japan coming to the U.S. To learn Japanese business style so that they could interact appropriately, ineffectively. It has something to do with the fact that there is an actual world that we're dealing with and that these rules have actual consequences.
