The Internet Book of Critical Care Podcast
Do You Have a Rapidly Reversible Hyponatrema Clamp?
The d d a b p clamp is intended for patients who have rapidly reversible cause of hyponatrema. Once the patient gets their sodium up 25 or one 28, or some number that's relatively close to normal and life is beautiful, you can stop the d t v p. If there was an underlying cause of s id or some other persistent cause of hyponetremia then the sodium may start dropping down again. That's not dangerous because at this point the patient's sodium is way out of a danger zone. But you do want to keep an eye open for it.
