Google's DeepMind built an AI called AlphaGo, designed for what many people call the hardest board game ever made. Go had remained unsolved by AI systems for a long time after chess had been. In 2015, Google set up a five game match between AlphaGo and World Champion Lisa Dole. On the 37th move of the game, AlphaGo shocked everyone watching, even other expert Go players. And Lee accepted that there was nothing he could do to stop it.
AI has the potential to impact our society in dramatic ways, but researchers can’t explain precisely how it works or how it might evolve. Will they ever understand it?
