The Importance of Flying in the War
A lot of young men wanted to join the RAF and fly Spitfires. They'd be bored, being coastal command or whatever they were doing. So a poster would go up: pilots needed, I want to be a pilot. The veterans that I've spoken to have all said that all the gliders were very easy to fly. Some didn't like it at all, couldn't found it very difficult to get down out of the sky. But once you can fly, as far as I'm aware, they were easy to fly... Not an awful lot of Hamelkar pilots survived. You need a modicum of talent to be able to fly it.
