The Importance of Keeping a Constitutional Monarchy
Secretary of War Henry Stimson knew that Japan was not a country of mad fanatics willing to fight to the last man, woman and child. He concluded that when it came to surrender terms, America should first warn Japan that a horrific bomb attack worse than even the fire bombing of Tokyo was in the cards if they chose not to surrender. If they did surrender, Stimson suggested very strongly they should be given the option of keeping a constitutional monarchy like England.
