It's interesting because even the idea of evolution is hard for me to keep altogether in my mind. And a slightly different career path that would have been equally interesting to me would have been to actually study the process of embryological development flowing on into brain development. It's not my field, but there are fascinating aspects to this process that eventually result in the complexity of various brains. In the study of vision, the continuity between humans and non-human animals has been second nature for a lot longer.
