Once SMO2 is at minimum, beyond that, the excess work comes from more predominantly anaerobic, substrate resources. The oxygen is tapped out. So if we can keep that oxygenation just above minimum, still pretty low, but just above minimum,. and get that athlete working for a longer period of time where VO2 kinetics are elevated - this could help them.
