The Life and Times of Alfred H Hunter
Joyce's real name was Alfred H. Hunter, the one who helped him home. He tried to write something called a portrait of the artist, but was flat rejected. Eventually he moved in 1904 into a Martello tower near Dublin that his buddy Gaugherty was renting. The rest is just sort of a chronicle of him jumping from place to place to place,. essentially looking for literary positions.
