I'm still left wondering with Chewy why Amazon didn't just take it out in the early days. I think Ryan Cohen understood that if you win over the customer and you treat them really, really well, then they will be yours for life. That was the big difference between the nameless, monolithic Amazon and this little startup that wanted to focus on people who love their pets. PetSmart then purchases Chewy for about $3.3 billion. It's the largest e-commerce acquisition of all time at that point.
