How to Censor the Bible for Young Children

I find it difficult to read many passages in the Bible to my preschoolers because they involve violence sometimes even commanded by God. I'd wait until they're much older to expose them to movies with this kind of content but I'd like to be able to share with them the gospel message earlier in their life. Tom you were reading the Bible at four years old so I mean how much did you take in when you were a child? You grew up in a church going family and yeah I was given my first Bible when I was four and a half and I just vaguely started to read it  but going to church you you hear bits of Bible and so on.
