Cold war had an ideological element, but it also had the element of national interests that put some countries in the cross hairs of imperialism. Sometimes ideology was dominant and sometimes used as a pretext for western aggression. The use of the atomic bomb was actually not only directed against japan, but also the opening shot of the new cold war.
