Sounds of SAND

CHAPTER

The Relationship Between Mushroom and the Human Body

There's a new field called neuro-microbiology. It investigates the way microbes that live in our gut control our behaviours. Many of these microbes produce neuro-trumps, myths, and facels on other systems. If you transplant the microbiome from a depressed human into what are called germ-free mice, then those mice start to show depressed behaviours. And if you swap their microbiota, then their trait, the behavioural traits also change. These are just examples of these many ways that our microbes seem to be able to affect our behaviour in ways that it's quite unsettling because it makes the question of our agency and individuality into a question.
