Omura could not put things off any longer and decided to take the next step. He was baptized under the name bartholomeo, which is why you sometimes see him called lord bartholomoe in sources. However, he also deflected questions about building a church in omura or openly repudiating buddhist temples in the castle town. The sincerity of this decision is hard to judge, and down to personal interpretation.
