Verner Herzog's Story in Wings of Hope

A mother and daughter board a flight to get home for the holidays. The plane is late because of bad weather, but they decide to fly on anyway. A thunderstorm breaks out in the middle of the flight as luggage falls from the overhead bins. Ten minutes after take-off, an engine failure causes the cabin to go black.
