The most effortful forms of slow thinking are those that require you to think fast. We cover long distances by taking our time and conduct our mental lives by the law of least effort. If I must construct an intricate argument under time pressure, I would rather be still than sit down. The maintenance of a coherent train of thought may also require self-control for most of usmost of the time.
