David grienberg has written about this in an essay called the warren objectivity in american journalism. Objectivity emerged because journalists began to realize they could be subjective, they could be biased. It's often confused with the notion that an objective journalist just knows the truth and will never succumb to error or bias. i think it's particularly challenging because, especially in daily news reporting, you're not going to get itper ly right every time every day.
