Scientists have been scratching their heads for decades on how to crack this chicken in a conundrum. Charlie Carter's two new papers, along with co-author Richard Wolfenden, might just be chipping away at this. The problem is that for DNA to be copied from cell to cell, it needs working proteins,. which themselves are encoded in DNA. So that poses a problem for how this system got started in the first place.
