Kepler had a model of the solar system that wasn't very accurate or anything like that. But he didn't really contribute, on the theoretical level, to a vast improvement in understanding his student,. Kepler was the one who realized that from tico's data you could infer that the easiest explanation of what the planets are doing is that they're moving in ellipses. And so kepler actually had laws, right? Kepler's laws. And that was a true scientific understanding.
