Agrippinus had been replaced by agidius when majorian came to power. Eventually, the feud between the two men led aegidius to accuse agrippinus of treason. Agrippinus was found guilty and sentenced to death. He managed to escape his captivity, however, and then seek asylum in the old saint peter's where he remained until he was officially pardoned.
