The German Fleet's Daring Mission Up the Channel
Hitler wanted to strengthen the naval defenses in Norway and he was also worried about the capital ships of the German navy which were based on French Atlantic ports. Hitler said he will send them up the chit English channel and that seemed the height of recklessness because they'd be sitting ducks. The British presumed if the Germans were ever going to go up the channel they would go at night using the cover of darkness but again Hitler completely defied conventional wisdom.
