The History of Israel and the History of the Zionist Movement
The history of palestine was held under ottoman control from 1516 through 1917. Prior to the british mandate and prior to the existence of israel there was a brief period where ottoman rule was interrupted by egyptian rule from 1832 through 1840. After all of this unrest in 1840 britain was able to take control of palestine and they returned it to the ottoman's for political reasons.
