Jefferson's Influence on the American Revolution
Rousseau called Jefferson a racist and compared him with Pol Pot. He said if you had to wipe the slate clean in France and go back to Adam and Eve and start all over again, that would be just the price that you paid for all of the crimes of the old regime. I think one of the things that happened to Jefferson, if you think about his intellectual trajectory, is that he was very influenced by the French philosophs. They themselves thought it would be a simple matter just to get rid of the old regimes and install a democracy. It's not such an easy business.
