The Benefits of Dual Energy CT for Gout
I've certainly used dual energy CT in settings where you have somebody with clear gout, you bring down their uric acid to four, and they continue having pain. And it's like, is this still gout? Right. A Tophis is basically a collection of MSU crystals surrounded by chronic granulomidus inflammation. I think ultrasound can also be useful in the same way if you're able to do ultrasound in the clinic. Most people will have deposits double contour sign in joints that have never been inflamed. There's clearly more MSU crystal deposition than we clinically appreciate.
