My Knights of Plague is a subconsciously Tolstoyan novel. At the heart of the historical novel lies, getting the details right about the major figures. Abdul Hamid II puts himself at the centre of absolutely everything. He replaces the flag and symbols of the nation. It's all about him. And we need to remember that people like Atatuk were born and brought up during his reign. The force of the individual is really important, but we must be wary of it, right?
